In Australia, the monthly CPI indicator pointed to a further increase in inflation in Q3. Nominal retail sales rose in August, broadly in line with the market expectations. Private sector credit continued to rise steadily in August. Despite a fall in Q3, there are still roughly as many job vacancies as the number of unemployed. Abroad, US core capital goods orders saw another solid increase in August. The US Conference Board consumer confidence index improved again in September, but remains low. US house prices fell for the first time in a decade in July. The Chinese PMIs pointed to stagnant growth in manufacturing and a slower pace of expansion in the non-manufacturing sector.
