In Australia, employment plunged in August amid the lockdowns over east, though the unemployment rate edged down as labour force participation declined. Business conditions and confidence improved a little in August, while consumer confidence picked up in September.
US retail sales and industrial production both grew in August, while US CPI inflation eased.
Chinese economic activity growth decelerated markedly in August, dragged down by COVID-19 outbreaks across the country. Chinese steel output dropped to the lowest level since March 2020.
